Airline Revenue Enhancement

Pre-pandemic, the goal of most revenue enhancement programs was to take a “stressed” system of aircraft availability, capacity, and scheduling and squeeze more flight hours into each day to meet ever rising demand without having to continuously buy new aircraft.

In the post pandemic world, this might not seem like an urgent goal as many pundits predict a slow recovery to pre-pandemic growth globally. However, as global airlines slowly recover aircraft from storage, new business models are emerging that avoid the capital crunch of the past.  With better information pertaining to the maintenance of fleets, the various “safety stocks” used in the past can be reduced to improve operational efficiencies while also increasing RASM.  Those safety stocks or operational insurance items include:

·       Aircraft Availability (Planes)

·       Spares Inventories (Parts)

·       Crew Availability (People)

·       Slot Availability (Places)

·       Block Time (Process)

How SkyThread is Working to Aid Revenue Enhancement

SkyThread is building three applications to support the revenue goals of the airlines.  They will be focused on some of the key causes of revenue disruption (IROPs) such as:

Unplanned MRO

SkyThread will increase aircraft availability by reducing unplanned MRO. SkyThread’s global data exchange is working to provide an accurate view of planes, their configurations, and the parts installed on them, which will aid prognostics and predictive systems to avoid maintenance induced delays and cancellations.

Aircraft-on-Ground (AOG) Optimization

Analytics built on SkyThread’s global data exchange will help airlines and their maintenance contractors dramatically reduce non-routine maintenance troubleshooting while enabling prescriptive and auto-optimized maintenance actions. Insight from the global data exchange will also help airlines and their contractors optimize scheduled maintenance plans.

Out of Position Aircraft

Analytics built on SkyThread’s global data exchange will help minimize the rippling effect of maintenance induced schedule disruptions, especially those caused by out of position aircraft, by enabling an agile and more responsive global spare parts distribution network.

Based on industry surveys, the costs of maintenance related delays and cancellations are expected to increase between now and 2035, when it is estimated that flights delayed due to unscheduled maintenance will cost just under $39 billion U.S. dollars.

The Airline Revenue Enhancement Bundle will benefit from future analytics around fleet compositions and configurations.  This information will better inform the operational analytics that have been built over the past decade to predict aircraft performance and avoid disruption from irregular operations.
